Handle the Learning Curve in a New E-Business

Do you want the bad news about starting a new online business first, or the good news?  The bad news is that you have an immense amount to learn.  The good news is that there is a lot of reliable information on the Internet that you can find for free or for relatively little money.  The bad news is that you can’t trust everything that you find on the Internet and that there are some unscrupulous folks out there.  The best news is that you’ll be able to distinguish the valuable from the worthless sooner than you now think you will be able.

One of the best ways to start your exciting education if to locate free or inexpensive course with the basics of starting online.    If you actually follow the lessons and apply what you learn, you will start to be able to distinguish the quality of the offers you encounter and the credibility of the sources.

You will discover that the reality of starting your business will fall somewhere between the extremes of the unscrupulous types who tell you that you can work half an hour per week in your pajamas and retire in a year and the other extreme of thinking it is an impossible task, as you may be thinking now.  Yes, you’ll need to get organized.  You must structure your available time carefully, and promise yourself and your family that your excitement over your new adventure will not occupy all available time.

Browse related topics (those you learned about in your short, hopefully free, course) on article directories, like A1Articles.com or EzineArticles.com.  Consult blogs that you deem to be trustworthy.  Find information about keyword research, business niche selection, design of business sites and other such related topics.

Don’t rush out to buy anything, yet.  The next step is to sit down with some paper and pencil.  From the list of things that you don’t yet know how to do, decide what you find interesting and and what sounds so boring that you would rather outsource the tasks.  Don’t worry, you can learn to do anything on that list.  Simply decide whether you want to invest your available funds in learning resources or in labor to actually perform each task.

Now, at last, the time for shopping has arrived.  If you find yourself tempted to buy an instructional product that you find, say a course on affiliate marketing or a set of videos about search engine optimization, hit your pause button.  At this point, you should do two things:  1) Bookmark the web page so that you can find it again.  2) Analyze the structure of the sales copy, because eventually you want to be able to write a sales pitch that works as well as that one apparently did on you.  Then, find a lot more products in the same category, so that you can later compare the alternatives.

In most cases, I impose a mandatory three day waiting period before I buy something I’ve just found.  That gives me time to consider it rationally, removing myself from the emotional responses elicited by the well presented offer.  After those three days have elapsed, if I am still convinced by the miracle cure that I discovered, I use my bookmark to find it again, pull out my payment card and buy to my satisfaction.

The most important part is this:  Implement what you have learned!  Your new knowledge does you no good unless you act upon it.

Many people try to chase the dream of easy money. What those people are going to come to realize is that there is really no such thing as easy money. Money is made only through hard work, and it is only when that hard work starts getting hard that it will start paying off. There are tons of people out there looking to work for themselves, thinking that it is the way to make more money, in some cases to start an online business is a way to make more money, but it is only a hand full that become rich.

Now, this is not said to make you feel that you will not get anywhere if you start online business. You just have to be realistic as to your goals in the online business. Now, you will make more money than you are making from your daytime job, but only if you put in the work and are willing to put in the time. Working for yourself is not as easy as most people make it out to be.

Most of the time when you work for yourself you will feel that you need some time off. This is exactly how you feel in your current job.

There are a lot of people trying to make money from the work from home idea, and they do this by trying to sell their idea of how to make money from home.

Now, if you are going to go on a vacation do not do so after you have quit your job, take it while you are still working and still have an income coming in, this way you are not spending the money you need when you start your own business.

The trick in a situation like this is to not be in a huge hurry. Find a good course on how to start an online business.  Yes, we all know that you want to get out and start working for yourself, but do not quit you day job just yet, until you are making money from your online work.

Essential Online Resources For New Online Company

Anyone who wants to start an online business has a steep learning curve to climb.  There are a few things that can help you get started on the right foot.  These resources will be beneficial to you whether you are starting from scratch or you already have an existing offline enterprise and regardless of the specifics of your unique business plan.

While it doesn’t really matter what order you obtain these, here are the three that I consider absolutely necessary to all beginning e-entrepreneurs:

A short course on starting an e-business.  Sometimes you can even find a free course on how to start an online business.  Whatever course you choose should not promise to reveal some hidden secrets.  It should just be a straightforward, honest overview of the major points to focus upon as you begin your Internet enterprise.

Google Account.  Just go the Google home page.  Below the search box, you will see a short list of links.  Click the link titled “Business Solutions.”  There you will find a list of more than a dozen resources that Google offers to business owners.  I suggest that you simply take a few hours exploring in detail what they have to offer.  Eventually you may find some that will never be useful for your business.  However, many will be.  In my various businesses, I use the following most frequently:

– Checkout (a payment processing system)
– Website Optimizer (conducts tests all of content on your website)–free
– Google Site Search (allows your users to locate content on your websites)–free
– AdWords (the advertising program for Google’s for their pay-per-click alternative)
— Analytics, which data for all of your major website traffic metrics–free

There are other Google services that I also use.  I particularly enjoy the Google Reader (for RSS feeds) and Google Docs, which allow me to access my documents from any computer that I use–as long as I have Internet access.  Your Google account is valid for all of these.

Perhaps the one thing that I use most often is a free list of Internet business resources.  The document has hyperlinks that take me directly to a large list of free tools and to some of the most highly respected software for web businesses.

Make sure you use these three suggestions, and your business is sure to begin in a way that allows for future growth.

How to Build From a Mini-Site Into an Online Empire

If you are just beginning in online business, either as a new business or as an expansion of or supplement to your already existing business, the size and scope of the firts website you choose to build will be among your first decisions.  A large site might become what is known as an authority site; that is certainly advantageous.  However, a small site, often called a mini-site has its share of advantages, as well.

Here are a few potential reasons that you might contract for a mini-site, or even build it yourself:

1.  I have heard that a mini-site has a good chance of ranking high in the search engine listings even with a small number of external links.

2.  I think I should learn beginning with a small site, and then I can add more mini-sites to my portfolio once I am ready to grow.

3.  I won’t have to have as much written for a mini-site as I would need for a bigger website.

4.  Most of my competitors have small websites.

5.  It’s not as difficult, time consuming or expensive to build a smaller website.

6.  My husband or wife forbids me to build a large site!

One could easily put together counter-arguments in favor of a larger site, but that’s not what we’re discussing here, is it?

All of those reasons are valid.  Actually, I have no idea what your spouse said or what the implied threat was for disobeying.  However some of the other reasons are valid only if you do the necessary research before you begin.  The third rationale is accurate, however, you must recognize that you will need to do some periodic updates on your pages.  Reason number 4 is niche specific, so I’ll take your word for your belief that it is true in the case of the market in which you are competing.  If we hold all other variables constant, the fifth reason is a slam-dunk–self-evidently true.

I have written elsewhere about the extreme importance of careful keyword research for a mini-site.  If you go through that process properly, the first reason is true because you will be optimizing for just a few, closely related semantically, long-tail keywords.  If any of those terms are unclear, I suggest that you read that article prior to continuing with this one.

That leaves the second reason pertaining to starting on a small scale and adding more mini-sites within the same general niche over a period of time.  There is a particular way that I suggest you go about achieving that dream.

1.  Keep that original list of keywords on your desktop–the list that you hired expert keyword researches to build or that you carefully built yourself.

2.  You have already set up your first site for closely related keywords in that list that have long tails.  At this point, examine the master list for another small set of closely related key phrases; they, too, should have long tails.  Do the same competition analysis for these keywords that you conducted on the first set (as recommended in that previous article).  If this set of keywords meet the same standards applied to those you used in the first site, then it’s time to begin mini-site number two.

3.  Get links to this site through article marketing, directory listings and other external link building.

4.  Once that site is on its way toward improved search engine rankings and increased traffic, repeat the process for site number 3…and so on.

Sooner than you think but not as quickly as you wish, you will have mastered your entire niche.  Then it will be time to begin serious efforts to improve your conversion rate by testing as many variables within your site as you can identify.  Only after you have maximized your traffic and conversion rate should you begin to consider launching an attack on the next niche.

This won’t all happen in the first month; nurturing a solid business takes time.  Learn, so that when you act, you will be acting appropriately…oh, and be patient.

Lots of people want to earn a lot of money and some might study for years to do this. Some people might get lucky with the Lottery, but most of the time, ordinary people like you and me have to work hard for very little money. This is why you should think of starting a web business and learn about how you can make money easily working in your own time, wherever you like. Once you start your own business you can easily set your goals and achieve your dream salary if you are dedicated.

So, when the time comes for you to start your own business and quit your job, you will feel like you need a vacation. This is the one mistake people make.

It is not easy spotting the scam on the internet, in fact, a ton of people have already fallen victim to this kind of scam, and all because they are desperate to work from home and fire their boss.

Another tip is to only quit once your online business is quite well established. This will give you a better chance to make the money you need and not fall behind.  Make sure you also take a course on starting an Internet business.

Necessary Online Resources For New Online Company

If you are just beginning to think about how to start an Internet business, I shall suggest a few ideas for further exploration prior to writing your business plan.  These will point you in the right direction, help you understand the unique jargon of Internet marketing and allow you to build a business that can grow over time.

Since they are all necessary, the order in which I suggest them doesn’t matter that much.  Just be sure to follow all three suggestions.

You should try to locate a free course on Internet business.  Stay away from any that promise some secret or magic formula to instant riches.  There is no such magic bullet.  You need to learn how to put together a real business, built on sound principles.

Get a Google account by going to the Google home page (google.com).  You will see a few blue links.  Select the link that says, “Business Solutions.”  I suggest taking a few hours, or however long it takes you, to nose around the various options.  Many are free.  Here are the particular solutions that I use on an almost weekly basis, although you may find others that are equally applicable to your new business.

I also use additional services from Google that are available to any Internet user, such as Google Docs and the Google (RSS) Reader (both free).  Signing up for any of the services will provide you with a Google account that is valid for all their services.

If you are able to find one, get a hyperlinked list of necessary resources.  One website has such a list of resources useful for online businesses available in a pdf format for easy access and use.  It includes   a number of highly useful free resources as well as many that have costs associated with them.

Make sure you use these three suggestions, and your business is sure to begin in a way that allows for future growth.

If you are just beginning in online business, either as a new business or as an expansion of or supplement to your already existing business, the size and scope of the firts website you choose to build will be among your first decisions.  A large site has its advantages, among them that it has the potential of becoming an “authority” site.  However, a small site, often called a mini-site has its share of advantages, as well.

Here are some reasons that you may decide to build a mini-site, or have one created for you:

1.  A mini-site can rank in the search engine results for keywords with fewer external links than a large site.

2.  It seems logical to start on a small scale and add other mini-sites as I am ready to grow.

3.  I won’t have to have as much written for a mini-site as I would need for a bigger website.

4.  Most of my competitors have small websites.

5.  It is easier and cheaper to build a mini-site.

6.  My husband or wife forbids me to build a large site!

One could easily put together counter-arguments in favor of a larger site, but that’s not what we’re discussing here, is it?

The rationale of all of those six is valid.  Well, maybe not the one about your spouse; I can’t know about that one unless you write me to tell me.  However some of the other reasons are valid only if you do the necessary research before you begin.  Number 3 is true, however, you may find that you will update the content on some of your pages periodically and perhaps even add specific landing pages if you do pay-per-click advertising campaigns.  The fourth reason is niche specific, and I don’t know what niche you are in; you’re the expert on your niche, so I’ll take your word for it.  If we hold all other variables constant, the fifth reason is a slam-dunk–self-evidently true.

In a different article I have addressed the vital nature of detailed keyword research for a mini-site.  If you go through that process properly, the first reason is true because you will be optimizing for just a few, closely related semantically, long-tail keywords.  I recommend that you read my earlier article prior to continuing with this one, if any of those terms are unclear to you.

Now look for another set of closely related keywords.  Repeat the competition analysis, as described in the previous article.  If this set of keywords meet the same standards applied to those you used in the first site, then it’s time to begin mini-site number two.

3.  Get links to this site through article marketing, directory listings and other external link building.

4.  As soon as that new site is showing signs of improved search engine attention and increased traffic, continue going through the same process until you have as many sites as your keyword list dictates.

Sooner than you think but not as quickly as you wish, you will have mastered your entire niche.  At that point, pause in your empire building efforts, so that you can focus on testing and revising to increase your conversion rates as much as possible.  You may decide to take on a new, preferably related, niche, but not until you are sure you have maximized your traffic and conversion rate.

This won’t all happen in the first month; building a solid business takes time.  Be patient and act intelligently, and you will definitely succeed.

Do you want the bad news about starting a new online business first, or the good news?  The bad news is that you have a great deal to learn.  The good news is that there is a lot of reliable information on the Internet that you can find for free or for relatively little money.  The bad news is that many of the sites that you will come across are scams (at worst) or not credible.  The best news is that you’ll be able to distinguish the valuable from the worthless sooner than you now think you will be able.

One of the best ways to start your exciting education if to locate free course with the basics of starting online.  There should be no (or minimal) charge for the rudimentary information.  As long as you are diligent in following the lessons and applying what you learn as you go, you will start to be able to distinguish the quality of the offers you encounter and the credibility of the sources.

You must allocate your time efficiently, and don’t forget about life’s priorities along the way (like family, your ethical standards and enjoying what you do).

Look for free information about some of the topics you learned about in your introductory course at article sites, like A1Articles.com or EzineArticles.com.  Consult blogs that you deem to be trustworthy.  Locate sources for information concerning topics such as your business niche selection, search engine optimization, design of business sites and many more topics.

It’s not yet time to go on a buying spree.  Put the brakes on any shopping urges.  The next step is to sit down with some paper and pencil.  From the list of things that need to be done in starting your business, decide what you find interesting and what you might prefer to hire done.  Don’t worry, you can learn to do anything on that list.  Simply decide whether you want to invest your available funds in learning resources or in labor to actually perform each task.

Now, at last, the time for shopping has arrived.  Fight any urge you have to immediately buy an amazing sounding product, whether it’s a course or a remarkable piece of software.  Instead of following your impulse to buy now, do these:  1) Bookmark the web page so that you can find it again.  2) Analyze the structure of the sales copy, because eventually you want to be able to write a sales pitch that works as well as that one apparently did on you.  Then, find a lot more products in the same category, so that you can later compare the alternatives.

In most cases, I force myself to abide by a three day cooling off period before buying an informational product or new software.  After those three days have elapsed, if I am still convinced by the miracle cure that I discovered, I use my bookmark to find it again, pull out my payment card and buy to my satisfaction.

Beware!  Buying can make you feel good, but your new purchase does you no good unless you use it, and using it means implementing the strategies that you learn about or the procedures for which the software was designed.  In other words, you must act!
