How to Monetize Your Web Site or Blog
Make a Living Online
If you use your mind, there is no reason why you can´t use the World Wide Web to make a living for yourself. As far as markets, with a click of a button you can go just about anywhere. As research goes, you can find about anything you need to know, and as to potential revenue, there’s no limit.
The good news when it comes to making money online it costs you little to nothing compared to a physical store, which gets expensive. Keep in mind that making money online doesn’t come easily for everyone. Most people have to put in the good work and “trial and error.”
To make money, it is important that your site gets a lot of traffic. To accomplish it, you need a theme or content that is useful or interesting, and gives users reasons to visit and look around on your site. It doesn’t have to be hard, but it helps if you choose content that you have interest, experience, or better yet, both, in. There are many ways to monetize your Web site or blog once these considerations are made. I am going to share with you some of the ways this can be done.
Selling Goods
The good thing about the World Wide Web is you can sell anything. You can set up your Web site so that you work as an affiliate, promote products and receive a commission on sales made. Alternatively, you can sell your own products. It’s easy to do, with all the merchant services that are available for you to accept on your web site. Templates come along with merchant services set up already, all you have to do is create an account and away you go.
Selling Services
If you have something to offer, you can do it online. I have a web site of car classified ads that makes some money. In the near future I will also look at opening other classified Web sites for Real Estate, boats and motorbikes. But it doesn’t have to stop at classifieds – if you have experience with anything and can offer a service, you can do it online. Other options include job boards or forums. Private content forums might charge membership fees upwards of $ 90 per month and have hundreds of members – so do the math.
To receive and send payments from my various Web sites and affiliate programs, I use PayPal. They accept different methods of payment that are secure and accredited. Just be sure to sign up for a premium or business account, as it’s free and you won´t have any limitations.
PPC and CPM Advertising
PPC (pay per click) and CPM (cost per mille – per 1,000 pageviews) are advertising methods which can be used either to advertise your own product/site or get paid to advertise other content/products on your site. With PPC advertising, you get paid each time someone clicks on an advertisement, while in CPM advertising you get paid according to the amount of times the page bearing the advertisement is viewed. Both these types of adverts can be easily integrated into your Web site by copying and pasting a simple snippet of code onto your Web site. The company does the rest. These companies in the list below offer reports and stats to check performance and the option to monitor your sites’ traffic.
- Google Adsense
- BidVertiser
- WidgetBucks
- Chitika
- LinkWorth
- ADSDAQ
Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is an extremely popular money making activity on the Web today. This system uses a merchant willing to let affiliates sell their products or services in exchange for commission. This type of advertising can also be called CPL- (cost per lead) or CPA- (cost per action) based. Affiliates help connect potential customers to merchants with tools like advertising or product reviews on their own blogs or web sites. Here are three to get you started:
- Adworkz
- PayDotCom
- ClickBank
Become an Affiliate
Becoming an affiliate is a good way to earn money from your Web site. A lot of companies these days would love to get referrals, as it gets their name out there, and they make more money. When you refer someone and they sign up using your special referral link, the affiliate company will credit your account with “x” amount. If you come across a company that you would like to refer, ask them if they have an affiliate program.
Sponsored Reviews
Initially this method was surrounded by some controversy, but following success from people willing to give it a go, it quickly found sure footing (albeit on a slippery surface). While writing product and service reviews is not for everyone, a lot of people – namely bloggers – are making decent money out of it. It’s worth considering.

Find What Works for You
Have a search for these companies and take care to read the terms and conditions for your peace of mind and eligibility requirements. There are ways to make money with a web site, but it’s best to remember that some will work for you, and others won’t, and may work against you. Like mentioned above, it takes a lot of trial and error before you learn what works for you and your service or product.
